Ruth is a healthcare attorney whose practice focuses on the defense of medical professionals. She specializes in HIPAA and other health care compliance matters as well as cybersecurity issues, particularly those associated with health information.

In addition to her healthcare practice, Ruth combines experience gained as a local government official with her legal education to advise local government clients on general governmental issues including budgeting, land use and local law enforcement.

After earning her undergraduate degree, Ruth served in the United States Air Force as an Intelligence Officer.  She left the Air Force after serving in the First Gulf War. After leaving the military, Ruth created a not-for-profit group which engaged in lobbying activities addressing state and local government land use issues in Virginia. In 1998, Ruth was elected to the Board of Supervisors in Prince William County, Virginia, representing the Occoquan Magisterial District. She served for five years during which time she entered law school.

While in law school Ruth served as an intern to the Honorable S. Randolph Sengel, Commonwealth's Attorney for City of Alexandria.  Following law school she served as the law clerk for the Honorable Stanley P. Klein in the Fairfax Circuit Court.
