L. Lee Byrd

Favorite Book: To Kill a Mockingbird  by Harper Lee

A seasoned trial lawyer, Lee Byrd understands the practical impact of litigation on a client’s day-to-day business. Lee works closely with clients to set realistic expectations for achieving the client’s goals at a reasonable cost.

Lee Byrd is one of Sands Anderson’s senior litigators, with over 35 years of experience successfully handling jury and nonjury trials, arbitrations, and mediations. Lee’s practice covers a broad range of complex legal matters in the state and federal courts of Virginia. Lee relies heavily on collaboration within Sands Anderson, given the in-depth experience and substantive legal knowledge of the firm’s attorneys.

For businesses and individuals, Lee’s has litigated a variety of cases involving contracts, business torts, commercial real estate disputes, creditors’ rights matters, construction disputes, trust and estate disputes, intellectual property claims, and the defense of employment and professional liability claims.

For government entities, Lee has litigated cases involving environmental issues, employment claims, alleged Freedom of Information Act violations, and land use & zoning disputes. Lee has successfully defended multiple Virginia school systems from claims of alleged violations of Title IX, Section 1983, the IDEA, Section 504, and the ADA.

Lee supports Sands Anderson’s strong focus on community. Lee is chair of the firm’s Literacy Committee, which leads a firm-wide initiative to help our communities thrive through the power of literacy. Lee leads Sands Anderson’s pro bono efforts as a member of Firms in Service, the goal of which is to provide legal support to people who cannot afford a lawyer. Lee is the host of the Captains’ Table, a local roundtable for non-profit executives that provides monthly educational and networking opportunities. The program is co-sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank.
