Sands Anderson Announces 2025 Board of Directors, Names Jeffrey Geiger as Firm President

RICHMOND, Va. (January 23, 2025) – Sands Anderson PC today announced the firm’s 2025 three-member board of directors will be:

Jeffrey H. Geiger to serve as President,
Ashley Burgess to join the board, and
Brian R. Pitney to continue service.

The board remains dedicated to strategic growth that will serve the firm’s business and government clients, and to fostering a culture of advancement, excellence, and community for everyone at the firm.

Geiger, who began his career at Sands Anderson in as an associate in 1998, became a member of the board in 2018 after serving as Litigation Group Leader for 10 years. He focuses his practice on business litigation, eminent domain, and legal malpractice defense/legal ethics. He has been recognized for his litigation experience in Virginia Business Magazine's "Legal Elite" since 2005 and in Super Lawyers® since 2007. In addition, Virginia Lawyers Weekly has named Geiger a “Leader in the Law.”

Burgess has served as the firm's Business Group Leader for the past eight years. He enjoys advising business owners, management, and executives on legal matters affecting their companies and serving as outside general counsel. Burgess is recognized by Virginia Business Magazine's "Legal Elite" and by Super Lawyers® for his experience in business.

Pitney has served on the board since 2017. He represents entrepreneurs, guiding them through growth by acquisition, strategic sales, and repeated success, while also providing counsel on business formation, commercial real estate, and other commercial transactions. He has been recognized by Virginia Business Magazine's "Legal Elite" in business, and by "Best Lawyers in America©" for his work with closely held companies and in real estate law.

Robyn H. Hansen will now serve as the Business Group Leader. Hansen brings 40-plus years of experience representing both public and private sector clients, providing guidance on an array of matters including employment and employee benefit issues, contract negotiations, policy development and implementation. Coastal Virginia Magazine has named Hansen a “Top Lawyer” in labor and employment law, as has Virginia Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite.”     

The firm's outgoing president, Margaret F. Hardy, served on the board since 2016 and as president since 2017. The firm’s first woman president, Hardy led the firm through a period of significant growth, organizational changes, and an office relocation. Hardy, who also serves as the managing shareholder of the Fredericksburg office, was named to Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s “Circle of Excellence” and “Go-To Lawyers for Negligence Law” in 2024. She has been consistently included in Virginia Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite” for health law and the “Virginia 500 Power List,” as well as listed in Super Lawyers® for medical malpractice defense. Along with her law degree, Hardy earned an MBA and holds a nursing license.
