Sands Anderson PC is pleased to announce that the firm’s shareholders have elected Margaret F. Hardy, Esquire, to serve on the board of directors.

As a member of the firm’s three-person board of directors, Hardy will serve a three-year term and play an important leadership role in the continued development of the firm’s growth strategies and client services, and commitments to attorney excellence, diversity and community.

Hardy began her legal career at Sands Anderson as a summer associate in 1994. She was elected a shareholder in 2008 and began serving as the managing shareholder of the firm’s Fredericksburg office in 2009, a role she will continue to fill. Her skills as an attorney and her leadership roles have garnered her recognition, including being named to Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s “Influential Women of Virginia,” in 2013, Virginia Business magazine’s “Legal Elite” since 2008 for legal services/pro bono, and listed in Super Lawyers® for medical malpractice defense since 2013.

Before attending law school, Hardy worked as a registered nurse. She received her nursing diploma from the Johnston Willis Hospital School of Nursing and her law degree from the College of William & Mary. She also received degrees from the University of Richmond (BS) and Old Dominion University (MBA).

“It’s with great pride that we welcome Margaret as a board member,” said firm president L. Lee Byrd, Esquire. “Margaret has done an excellent job of managing the Fredericksburg office. She has held several other leadership positions within the firm over the years, and has consistently demonstrated her strong commitment to our firm and clients.  Not to be forgotten is the fact that Margaret is an excellent lawyer and is well-respected in the profession and in the community. Her contributions as a board member will be valuable.”

"I am honored to have been elected and look forward to being a part of a team that is charged with setting and implementing the strategic vision of the firm,” said Hardy.

Byrd and Benjamin W. Emerson, Esquire will continue their service on the board.
