Press Releases

RICHMOND, VA (January 19, 2018) – L. Lee Byrd Esquire, a shareholder of the Sands Anderson PC law firm, has been inducted into the Virginia Law Foundation Fellows Class of 2018.

All members of the Fellows Class of 2018 were inducted at a dinner and ceremony on January 18th at the Williamsburg Lodge & Conference Center during the Virginia Bar Association’s annual meeting.

The Virginia Law Foundation Fellows program was created in 1983 by its Board of Directors to encourage and recognize excellence in the practice of law and public service and to support the programs and objectives of the Foundation. The current Fellows membership is nearly 500.

"We are very pleased that Lee's accomplishments as a lawyer and leader in the legal community are being recognized by the Virginia Law Foundation," said firm president, Margaret F. Hardy. "Lee is a highly skilled and ethical attorney and he is a dedicated champion for bridging the justice gap with pro bono work. The Foundation honoring Lee is richly deserved and Sands Anderson is privileged to be Lee's professional home."

Byrd is immediate-past president of Sands Anderson, a former member of the firm's Board of Directors, and practices law within the firm's Business, Business and Professional Liability Litigation, and Government Groups. Byrd has substantial experience handling a variety of litigation and administrative matters involving business, environmental, employment, intellectual property, land use, zoning, and municipal finance issues. As counsel for non-profits in the Richmond and Tidewater communities, Byrd works on a variety of legal issues, including employment matters and situations that may impact an organization’s tax-exempt status.

Byrd is rated AV, the highest possible score in experience and ethics, through the Martindale Hubbell Peer Review rating system. He has been listed in Virginia Business magazine's "Legal Elite" since 2005, Best Lawyers in America® since 2013, and Virginia Super Lawyers® since 2007. Byrd earned his undergraduate degree from University of Virginia and his law degree from William and Mary Law School.

Byrd is a member of the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation's Board of Directors and serves on the advisory board of the Institute on Philanthropy at the University of Richmond. Byrd is acting host of the monthly Captains' Table events, providing guidance for nonprofit CEO's and executive directors in the Richmond region. Byrd also serves as chair of Sands Anderson's Literacy Committee and led the firm-wide contribution of over 280 volunteer hours promoting literacy in 2017.
