Andrew R. McRoberts Receives VAAO’s Distinguished Service Award

RICHMOND, Va. (October 31, 2022) — Sands Anderson PC today announced shareholder Andrew R. McRoberts has been given the Distinguished Service Award by the Virginia Association of Assessing Officers (VAAO). The award was presented during the VAAO’s Annual Conference in October.

The Distinguished Service Award goes to individuals who make significant contributions to the improvement of assessment administration in Virginia. It honors those who provide training at VAAO conferences and help with pending legislation, as well as those who support VAAO members when their assessments are challenged.

McRoberts offers specialized outside counsel for local governments and officials across Virginia. He has been a dedicated member and active speaker at VAAO for many years and is known for his deep understanding of the local taxes and fees that affect Virginia’s cities, counties, and towns.

His clients include localities, boards of equalization, commissioners of the revenue, and other assessing officials in all types of local government tax assessment claims including administrative assessment appeals and litigation challenging local assessments. Because he has served in various localities and across the broad spectrum of local government law, McRoberts offers both in-depth knowledge and inventiveness when helping his clients navigate complex litigation and issues in local governments.
