Elizabeth L. White
Liz White brings four decades of experience and expertise representing developers, landowners, investors, financial institutions, local governments and common interest communities.
Referred to as a “city attorney for private cities,” Liz has four decades of experience representing national, regional, and local developers of, and investors and lenders for, mixed-use, commercial, office, resort and residential communities and condominiums (inclusive of age-restricted 55+ and 62+ communities) in her hometown of Williamsburg, Virginia, as well as statewide and nationally.
She assists in the development, zoning, financing (including financing involving Community Development Authorities and local government bonds), and creation of governance structures for large-scale and mixed-use master planned communities and condominiums, many of which include complex private governance structures, special zoning and entitlements.
Locally, Liz has been integrally involved in the development, financing, zoning, creation, and governance of communities such as New Town, Kingsmill on the James, Colonial Heritage, Stonehouse, Quarterpath Village (Village Green North), Powhatan Secondary, The Governor’s Land, Ford’s Colony, Brandon Woods, Villas at Five Forks, Villas at Yorktown, Vilas at Shady Banks, The Settlement, Villages of Kiln Creek, Harbour View and Magnolia Green.
Liz’s relationships within the greater Williamsburg community run deep and wide. She grew up in Williamsburg, graduated from Lafayette High School, obtained her undergraduate and law degrees from the College at William and Mary, attended Bruton Parish Church, and has held and continues to hold leadership positions within the community, including but not limited to having served on and chaired the City of Williamsburg’s Board of Zoning Appeals and the City’s Public Housing Advisory and Grievance Committee.
Nationally recognized for her expertise in Community Association Law, Liz was recruited by William and Mary Law School to teach Community Association Law which was the only class on this subject in a Virginia law school and only one of a handful nationwide.
Her breadth of knowledge and experience across the spectrum of development, zoning, operations, management, and insurance, enables Liz to deftly move, communicate, and negotiate within a variety of legal frameworks and environments. A teacher at heart, she breaks down complex concepts and assists clients in developing pragmatic strategies to win community and government support. Her ability to effectively communicate and work between developers, local governments, adjacent landowners, community associations, club owners, lenders, managers, insurance companies, and boards facilitates efficient problem solving and enhances her clients’ relationships within these diverse frameworks.
